Beebe Chamber of Commerce Receives Historic Building Donation from Garrett Family
 

The Beebe Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the generous donation of the iconic building at 102 N. Main Street by the Garrett family. Previously leased to the Chamber since 2018, this landmark building, known as the J.S. Smith Building, now officially belongs to the Beebe Chamber of Commerce.

Constructed in 1891 by Jim Smith, a pioneering civil engineer and one of Beebe's earliest settlers, the building has played a significant role in the city's history. Over the decades, it has housed various important institutions, including doctors’ and dentists’ offices, the Beebe Library, and the White County Bank. Known for its architectural significance, the building features high-style elements such as brick corbelling at the cornice, recessed brick panels, hood molding over the second-story windows, and a distinctive recessed corner entrance.

The generous donation was made by Sandra Garrett, of the Garrett family, who expressed her desire for the building to serve as a catalyst for growth and inspiration within the community. In her words, she hopes the Chamber will use this building to help fulfill its mission of "Finding Inspiration in Every Turn."

 

Building Fund and Future Plans

With the transition from lease to ownership, the Beebe Chamber has initiated a building fund aiming to raise $15,000 to address immediate structural needs including roof resurfacing, window replacement, and floor repairs in the main room. The Chamber is actively developing a master plan for the building's future use, focusing on enhancing its potential to support the local community and economy.

The Beebe Chamber Board Building Subcommittee is diligently working to establish plans and secure additional funding for a larger renovation project. Community members and businesses are invited to contribute to this fund, ensuring the preservation and revitalization of this historic asset.
